Lockett serves up good country cookin' in Culloden

Lockett Kuntry Cooking in Culloden isn't the kind of place you see in one of those credit card commercials, where lines of customers rush through the checkout until somebody pulls out cash or a checkbook. Then everything comes to a screeching halt, much to the disgust of the cashier and crowd, until the embarrassed check-writer pulls out the plastic.

When you order the lobster tails at the Bonefish Grill, the dipping butter comes in a metal cone that has a small flame flickering under it. The butter bubbles. My wife, who puts away lobsters like the FBI puts away mobsters, had never seen this before and said it was a brilliant cure for the lobster-eater's dilemma of slowly congealing butter.

I love barbecue. No, actually, I really love barbecue. I have been known on occasion to eat it a couple of times a week, I love it so much --- OK, maybe three or four times a week. So, when I read in The Telegraph that people were traveling from as far away as Atlanta to try the food at Miss Piggy Bar-B-Que, I knew it was a place I had to visit.

The Buff, known formally as Buffington's, is a local "watering hole" in Milledgeville. This restaurant by day, bar by night, has a variety of foods and drinks to satisfy any customer. If you have a sense of humor that is.

The board behind the counter at Hong Kong Restaurant on Zebulon Road has everything you would expect from a Chinese take-out restaurant. The moo shu, the egg foo young, the chow mein, they're all there.
And if you're looking for run-of-the-mill, average, "Americanized" Chinese food, use the board. However, if you want something that's a little more adventurous and authentic, go with the specials.<br>

Give Joe's Ravioli a little time and then prepare to be amazed

Joe's Ravioli is not your typical hole-in-the-wall. Yes, the place is tiny; our group of 10 nearly filled the place up. But immediately upon entering Joe's, you sense the family atmosphere, the time and thought put into every dish and the desire to please everyone who comes through the doors. The walls are warm and filled with paintings, the lighting is dim and romantic.

It may not classify as the best Mediterranean restaurant I've ever eaten at (that designation belongs to a restaurant in Cary, N.C.), but the food and ambiance at Ali Baba's Palace in Warner Robins is worth a try if you're looking for something different.

Some call Warner Robins the international city — a mixture of cultures brought in by Robins Air Force Base, living and eating harmoniously, eager to share their culture with you. Expect to find eateries from almost all over the world.

A visit to Old Clinton BBQ is a trip back in time

So how do you rate a place that transcends time? Old Clinton was around before me and will probably be around long after. It's been in the media more times than I have been, too. Maybe the best thing to do is re-create a visit to this venerable establishment.

The bread is fresh-made, the bacon is crisp and the vegetables are fresh and plentiful at Cherry Peppers, the sandwich-and-salad shop tucked away just off Riverside Drive. But the food isn't something I'd drive out of my way to eat, and that's probably going to be the restaurant's biggest problem: neither the food nor the location really stand out.
